Ilir Dinovic - President 
Vice President, SCOR Reinsurance 

Ilir Dinovic is Vice President and Senior Casualty Treaty underwriter at SCOR responsible for developing and servicing a diverse portfolio of casualty business.  He earned his BSc in Economics at Fairfield University and holds the CPCU, RPLU and ARe designations.  He was most recently a treaty underwriter at QBE Re and before that, he worked in QBE's Global Distribution group where he served as an internal consultant to the primary P&C business units and developed a strong foundation for the insurance business.  Ilir has been involved with the group since 2014 and has held the positions of Newsletter Co-Chair and Education Co-Chair. 

Blake Berman - Vice President
SVP Strategic Advisory, Guy Carpenter 

Blake is a Senior Vice President in Guy Carpenter's New York office. He is a leader of the company's Capital & Growth Advisory team, which assists clients with strategic decisions related to analyzing growth markets, modeling & managing enterprise risk, and optimizing capital & reinsurance strategy.  As part of this function, Blake oversees Guy Carpenter's Risk Benchmarks Research, an annual study of insurance industry trends and data.  Blake has nearly a decade of experience as a property and casualty actuary in insurance and reinsurance.  Blake has volunteered as a member of the Re Under 40s Board since 2013, holding multiple positions including Tour Chair, Treasurer, and Vice President.  Blake assists the group facilitation of fundraising and events, working closely with the President and Executive Board. 
Blake is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Graduate of Middlebury College.

Kelly Nickerson - Treasurer
Senior Director, Global Insurance Services, FTI Consulting

Kelly is a Senior Director in FTI Consulting's Global Insurance Group.  She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and has been providing litigation consulting and other advisory services for insurers and reinsurers for over ten years while at FTI, with prior experience as an auditor for Ernst & Young for global property and casualty insurers and reinsurers.  Kelly has more than twelve years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial reporting and insurance-related matters, and has provided advice for matters involving complex insurance and reinsurance litigation, damage quantification, insolvency causation, due diligence and insurance/reinsurance accounting and operations.  Kelly currently serves as the Treasurer for the Reinsurance Under 40s Group and has been involved with the Re Under 40s since 2012. 

Neil Valsangkar - Secretary
Partner, Mendes & Mount, LLP

Neil is a Partner at the law firm of Mendes & Mount, LLP. His practice involves various facets of insurance law, including multi-party complex insurance coverage litigation, arbitration and mediation, claims servicing and
monitoring, and risk/reserve management and analysis.  He has advised insurers and assureds on long tail claims, product liability matters, aviation-related lawsuits, and other comprehensive general liability cases.  In addition to his litigation practice, Neil has extensive experience in negotiating and drafting comprehensive
Coverage-in-Place Agreements, Structured Settlements, and Insurance Coverage Buybacks and Commutations.
He has been a member of the U.S. Reinsurance Under 40s Group, Inc. since March 2014 and previously served as the Social Co-Chair.  Neil currently serves on the executive board for the Re Under 40s and is also an active member of the John Street Insurance Association. 

Rob DiUbaldo - Charity Co-Chair 
Attorney, Carlton Fields 

Rob DiUbaldo is a Shareholder in the New York office of Carlton Fields Jorden Burt. His practice focuses on insurance and reinsurance arbitration, litigation, regulatory matters and complex claims analysis on behalf of insurers, cedents, reinsurers and other entities engaged in the (re)insurance space. Mr. DiUbaldo has litigated, arbitrated and counseled clients on matters involving a broad range of issues in the property & casualty and life & health sectors, as well as many specialty lines, such as financial and surety products. He also counsels (re)insurers on regulatory issues, contract wording, insolvency matters, and commutation-related issues, and represents insurance companies, banks, lenders and other financial services companies in various types of litigation. Mr. DiUbaldo is a member of the ARIAS Law Committee, as well as a founder, former President and current board member of the U.S. Reinsurance Under 40s Group.

Yelena Strakhan - Charity Co-Chair 
Manager, Everest Reinsurance Co.
Yelena Strakhan is a Property Facultative Underwriter at Everest Re.  She is responsible for building and maintaining a book of property business that contains E&S, programs, as well as a broad range of other related business.  Ms. Strakhan previously underwrote Marine Cargo business at AIG/Starr.  She received her BS in Risk Management & Insurance, and Finance from St. John's University and is involved with giving back to current students as part of alumni relations.  Ms. Strakhan has been a member of the Reinsurance Under 40s group for severeal years and is looking forward to being a Charity Co-Chair this year. 

Vanessa Contreras - Communications & Membership Co-Chair
Vice President, SCOR Reinsurance 
Vanessa Contreras is an Vice President and Professional Liability Underwriter at Scor Reinsurance in Chicago, IL. She is responsible for underwriting and pricing Medical Professional Liability for physicians, surgeons and allied healthcare facilities as well as non-medical lines of Professional Liability including Directors and Officers, Lawyers Professional Liability and Miscellaneous E&O. She began her career in reinsurance as part of the Risk Analyst Development Trainee Program at Munich Re.  Prior to Munich Re, she worked for State Farm Insurance in Bloomington, IL. 

Vanessa holds Bachelors of Science degrees in Finance and Risk Management & Insurance from The Katie School of Insurance at Illinois State University.  She holds her CPCU, ARe and is in the process of pursuing her RPLU designation.  Vanessa has served on The Re Under 40s Board for five years.  She is also an active member of PLUS - Professional Liability Underwriting Society including the LAMP Program, the APIW - Association of Professional Insurance Women, The CPCU Society and in 2015 she was named to the Intelligent Insurer's list of 40 Rising Stars Under 35.

Gina Ross - Communications & Membership Co-Chair 
Casualty Treaty Underwriter, Munich Re America 

Gina is a Casualty Treaty Underwriter at Munich Re America. Based in Princeton, NJ, she focuses on workers compensation, general liability, auto liability, and umbrella liability for regional clients across the US. Gina began her reinsurance career in the Graduate Reinsurance Development Program at Munich Re, a two-year rotational program with participants from across the global organization that combines primary insurance and reinsurance underwriting training and development.
Gina is a graduate of the Fox School of Business at Temple University where she received a BBA in Risk Management & Insurance and holds the CPCU and ARe designations. Gina previously served on the Re Under 40s Board as the Educational Tour Chair, organizing a trip to Zurich and Munich in April 2018. She is also involved in APIW (Association of Professional Insurance Women), Gamma Iota Sigma, and Munich Re's Young Professionals Employee Resource Group.

James Thaler - Education Co-Chair
Treaty Broker, Guy Carpenter

James Thaler is a treaty broker at Guy Carpenter, working with clients to place property and casualty risks for regional and national clients. James joined Guy Carpenter in 2013, beginning his career in the contracts department, drafting and analyzing reinsurance contracts for all lines of business. He studied Economics and English literature at Trinity College in Hartford, CT, and has completed the CFA exams. He is a holder of the CPCU, ARe, and ARM designations.

Carlos Matos-Communications & Membership Co-Chair
Reinsurance Analyst, QBE Re

Carlos Matos is currently a Reinsurance Analyst at QBE Re in New York City.  He works with QBE's casualty reinsurance and multi-line teams.  Prior to joining QBE Re, Carlos attended St. John's University, earning the diploma in Risk and Insurance at The Peter J. Tobin College of Business.  This is a 1-year, two semester, 24 credit certificate program which helped him build a strong foundation of (re)insurance to kick-start his career.  Additionally, Carlos has a Bachelors of Science in Resource Economics with a minor in Business Fundamentals from the University of Connecticut. 

Marlin Ramlal - Education Co-Chair 
Reinsurance Underwriter, AXIS Re
Marlin is a Treaty Underwriter for AXIS Reinsurance.  In her role, Marlin is focused on serving the reinsurance needs of Regional, Super Regional and Mutual P&C Insurance Companies through her broker channel, evaluating Proportional and Non-Proportional treaties that include Property, General Liability, Auto, Worker's Compensation, Umbrella and Catastrophe.  

Marlin is an enthusiastic and dedicated underwriter with 14 years of experience in primary insurance, brokerage and reinsurance.  She started her career as a summer intern, and was hired full time upon graduation at RPS, the MGA division of Arthur J. Gallagher.  Marlin graduated with a B.S. in Actuarial Science from St. John's University.  She completed her CPCU, ARe, RPLU and CYB designations.  She is currently pursuing her Associates in Insurance Data and Analytics (AIDA).  

She actively volunteers as Event Treasurer for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, RiverKeepers Organization, and the Covenant House Organization.  She is a member of the John Street Insurance Association and the Association of Professional Insurance Women.  Marlin is passionate about (re)insurance and is an avid advocate for young professional development. 

Alex Mican - Education Co-Chair 
Sr. Product Development Manager, Verisk Analytics - PCS
Alex Mican is a senior product development manager, PSC, at ISO Claims Analytics, a division of Verisk Insurance Solutions.  He focuses on helping PCS develop new solutions for the global specialty market including marine, energy, cyber and terror.  Alex join Verisk Insurance Solutions in 2014 and PCS in 2016.  Originally from Romania, he came to the United States to study for his Masters of Business Admistration degree, which he completed at Plymouth State University in 2011.  

Sean Ramlal - Fundraising Chair and Technology Chair
Vice President, Treaty Underwriter, QBE Re

Sean is currently a Vice President at QBE Re working as a treaty underwriter and managing their casualty and professional liability reinsurance team. Before graduating from St. John's University's Actuarial Science program, Sean began his career as a claims intern at Platinum Re (now Renaissance Re). From there, he joined CNA's actuarial rotation program in Chicago as an analyst for their Specialty Lines reserving team and their Worker's Compensation pricing team. In 2009, he returned to the reinsurance industry in New York to work for Allied World Re as an actuary pricing casualty treaties. He joined the underwriting team at QBE Re in 2014.

Sean holds the Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS), Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU),  and Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) designations and has been named to the Intelligent Insurer's list of 40 Rising Stars Under 35. He has been involved with the Reinsurance Under 40s group since 2010 and has served as the group's President.

Nicholas Secara - Finance Chair
Assistant General Counsel, Ascot Insurance US and Ethos Specialty Insurance Services LLC

Nicholas Secara is Assistant General Counsel for two divisions of Ascot Group Limited: Ascot Insurance US, an admitted and surplus lines insurance carrier, and Ethos Specialty Insurance Services LLC, a Managing General Underwriter. Prior to joining Ascot, Nicholas spent seven years in private practice at leading international law firms, where he counseled insurers and reinsurers, producers and other intermediaries on high-value disputes and complex regulatory matters and transactions, as well as FinTech companies at the forefront of blockchain development and deployment.

He is well published and has spoken on current issues impacting the insurance and FinTech industries, including how the implementation of blockchain technology may disrupt the insurance market, financial regulatory developments in off-shore jurisdictions relating to digital assets, and the manner in which concussion-related class actions may affect liability policies.

Nicholas serves as the Finance Chair for the U.S. Reinsurance Under 40s Group, Inc. and previously served on the Executive Board as Secretary. He also co-founded and serves on the Advisory Council for the Emerging Leaders, a division of the Insurance Federation of New York, Inc. Nicholas graduated from Middlebury College and the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.

Gavin J. Brennan - Social Co-Chair 
Vice President, BMS Re US
Gavin is currently a Vice President at BMS Intermediaries, Inc. in NYC. He joined the firm in March 2014 and serves as a reinsurance broker servicing a wide range of clientele on both new and renewal business. He began his career in 2010 as a junior broker in Willis Re's Philadelphia office working primarily on treaty business. In September 2012, he joined Marsh USA in NYC and transitioned to the primary side of the business. There, he served a diverse portfolio of middle market clients in Marsh's National Brokerage unit primarily focused on client's P&C insurance and risk management needs.

Gavin graduated from Wesleyan University in May 2010 with a B.A. in Economics. He holds the CPCU and ARe designations, as well as the New York State P&C broker's license. Outside of reinsurance his hobbies include: the Philadelphia Eagles, and golf.

Chris Martin - Social Co-Chair
Assistant Actuary, Trans Re
Chris is an Assistant Actuary at Transatlantic Reinsurance in New York, where he began his career in 2006.
He currently specializes in property reinsurance, where his primary responsibilities include pricing, managing the global rollup for TransRe's internal catastrophe pricing model, and evaluating internal & external corporate retrocession decisions. In the past, Chris focused on pricing, reserving, and reporting for various traditional and specialty casualty lines.
Chris is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (2012). He graduated cum laude from New York University's Leonard N. Stern School of Business and received the W. Edwards Deming Award. His appointment as co-Social chair is his first position on the Reinsurance Under 40s board, he's excited to contribute in a meaningful way.

Alex Bustillo - Educational Tour Co-Chair 
Cyber Liability Underwriter, Trans Re 
Alex Bustillo joined Trans Re as a Cyber Liability Underwriter in July of 2017.  He graduated in May of 2017 from Syracuse University with Bachelor's degrees in Marketing, Finance and Supply Chain Management.  Prior to joining Trans Re full-time, he held two summer internships, both with the Trans Re Cyber team.  Alex is responsible for underwriting, risk management, and new product development.  

Phylip Jones - Educational Tour Co-Chair 
Global Marketing Manager, Trans Re 
Phylip Jones is the Global Marketing Manager at TransRe, with responsibilities ranging from corporate brand management, global marketing programs and business development initiatives. Prior to joining TransRe, Phylip served as marketing and product strategist at Moody's Analytics. In this role, he managed several financial service products and with innovative marketing campaigns he supported their sales team increase profits over $20 million dollars. In addition to working at Moody's Analytics, Phylip worked on outdoor marketing campaigns at Macy's Inc. and was a financial analyst in the Ultra High Net Worth Division of the Private Bank at J.P. Morgan Chase.
Phyl's greatest strengths are his drive, leadership and creativity. He has a strong passion for community outreach and entrepreneurship. Brining both passions together, he created a cause-marketing firm dedicated to creative and supporting alternative fundraising opportunities for non-profits and businesses. His firm as consulted with several firms such as Moet Hennessy, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, American Breast Cancer, Essence Magazine and Dr. Oz's Health Corps.   
In 2012, Phylip graduated from Morehouse College where he studied Business Administration with a concentration in marketing. Currently, Phylip sits on the programming committing of the American Marketing Association.

Hanbing He - Photography Chair
Assistant Vice President, Guy Carpenter 
Hanbing He is an Assistant Vice President in Guy Carpenter's Strategic Advisory®practice. With actuarial and computer science backgrounds, Hanbing's role includes building databases, validating methodologies and optimizing models to help Guy Carpenter stay on the forefront of data and analytics. Hanbing holds a M.S. from Columbia University and a B.A. from CUFE in China. He continues to study towards the FCAS designation.
